During the pandemic, we are supporting those affected by COVID 19. From thanking and feeding healthcare workers to supporting trafficking victims, and helping kids maneuver online school, we are lucky to have found many ways to help and donors who believe in our work.
Harper Reading Nooks
We got a call from our friends at Fostering Family. They were concerned about children who live in group homes because they have been unable to find a foster family. They asked us to find tutors to help them navigate online learning, and we are working to make this happen!
We also realized that group homes had additional challenges. Multiple kids in one space with different classes streaming in at once would make learning very difficult. Fortunately, Mrs. Angelina Harper, a caring teacher, and mother, had already created a solution and shared it with the world. We are now making these nooks for children who may need a private, compact, and portable space to keep their learning materials. We added headphones, so each child can listen and participate in their own lesson even if noise is unavoidable. With her permission, we named the nooks “Harper Learning Nooks.”

COVID Acts of Kindness
This is our second COVID campaign. We will support the broader Houston community with a focus on those affected by the pandemic while continuing to support local businesses. We are focusing on three businesses to maximize our impact: Common Bond Bistrot and Bakery, Cake and Bacon, and A 2nd Cup.

A 2nd Cup, is a non-profit working to end human trafficking in several ways. One of them is using the income from their café in Houston Heights.
With the help of some amazing U of H students, we raised funds to spend in their cafe supporting their mission that way. We will be purchasing their products to support others in need in our community. We love the double benefit here!
We also supported their Brazen Table campaign by making some kits with our families and using our funds to purchase some kits from directly for this campaign. They can now move their program to online instruction because every survivor of human trafficking in training has their own kitchen equipment.

100% of the donations we received were used to purchase products from local establishments and delivered directly to hospitals to units that we knew needed a socially-distanced pick me up.
